Food is very important in our lives. You can say that food is the main source of nourishment and fuel for our bodies. So picking the right foods to feed, fuel and help heal our precious bodies is a very important task.

However, accomplishing this very important task is becoming extremely hard nowadays.

You see many of the major food manufacturers that we trust to supply us with food are filling those foods with dangerous chemicals to preserve and make them look and taste better. And besides those chemicals being harmful to our bodies, they can also be causing us to gain weight.

The worst part is that these food companies are not necessarily telling us the truth.

Just because they announce on their labels that their food products are gluten-free, fat free or organic doesn’t necessarily mean that their foods are healthy and safe to eat.

What is even more disturbing is that the FDA is aware about all this. The FDA even approves and allows certain ingredients that are known to cause harm to our bodies into these foods that are being sold in supermarkets and grocery stores all across the country.

With all this happening, it’s not surprising that there are so many health problems facing our nation today.

So What Harmful Ingredients Should I Be On The Lookout For?

1. Aspartame: Aspartame is an artificial sweetener commonly used as a sugar substitute in foods and beverages. Even though this ingredients has been labeled by FDA as safe to use, it has been linked to cause serious health problems like cancer, cardiovascular disease, seizures, dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

2. Enriched flour: Essentially, enriched flour is flour that has been chemically and mechanically stripped of all its fiber and nutrients, and then has a small fraction of those nutrients artificially replaced.

Due to the highly processed and depleted state, foods made with enriched flour are not naturally processed by the body.

3. Soybean oil: The soybean has commonly been viewed as a healthy food and is a popular replacement for animal protein. Unfortunately, the soybean and soybean oil are also linked to many health conditions. One major problem is that the bean is commonly mass produced with lots of carcinogenic pesticides and genetically modified. Soy and soybean oil are linked to inflammation, digestive issues and allergies.

4. High fructose corn: High fructose corn is a sweetener made from corn starch and is mainly used on processed foods, cereals and soft drinks. High fructose corn has been linked to an increase in obesity, type two diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease.

5. TBHQ: TBHQ is a common antioxidant that prevents fat oxidation. Oxidation can cause the foods to lose flavor, change color and deplete their nutritional value. Since oxidation can lead to fats turning rancid, TBHQ can also help increase shelf life.

According to the Centers for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI), a well-designed government study found that this additive increased the incidence of tumors in rats.

And according to the National Library of Medicine (NLM), cases of vision disturbances have been reported when humans consume TBHQ. New studies have showed that TBHQ may also harm the immune system.

The Best Way To Avoid These Harmful Chemicals

The best way to avoid these harmful chemicals is to educate yourself about them and their negative side effects. Also find out which foods that you are currently eating contain these harmful ingredients.

Even if you go to stores like Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods you still need to be very careful and always read the labels carefully to make sure that these harmful ingredients are not in the foods you are buying.

So do your own research and start eating healthy.
