10 reasons why you should be taking Zumba® Fitness


Zumba® Fitness has been around for a while now and is enjoyed by millions of people worldwide. The fact that it’s so much fun (you feel like you’re at a party) and effective at burning loads of calories, is what makes people run to take Zumba® Fitness classes.

But the reasons to take Zumba® Fitness classes don’t stop there. Below are 10 other reasons:

1) Dancing to music makes you happy. It’s true, when I finish a class everyone has a big smile.

A study from the journal of positive psychology found that listening to up beat music can improve your mood and boost happiness.

The songs used in Zumba® Fitness are popular Latin and world rhythms with energizing beats that are so contagious. If you’re feeling sad or low on energy, you won’t anymore after the class is over.

2) You want to come back for more. Zumba® Fitness is so much fun, that a single 1-hour class is not enough. Many of my students end up taking 3 to 4 classes per week.

3) You join a community. Zumba is a group of people with the same goals and interests as yours. Many of my students have made life long friendships.

4) You build endurance. In the beginning, if you are out of shape, you might find it a little hard to finish a whole class. But as time passes, you will find yourself doing a whole class without stopping.

5) Time goes by fast. Many of my students are amazed at how quickly an hour flies by, after shaking and moving their hips.

They can’t believe it when I say, “let’s start cooling down”. They think I’m joking, and they want more.

6) If you don’t have rhythm, you will after a couple of weeks of taking Zumba® Fitness. Who knows, you might even end up getting a job as a backup dancer for Beyonce.

7) If you stopped working out, you’ll fall in love with working out again. I have students who stopped working out because they got bored of going to the gym. Then a friend invited them to a Zumba® Fitness class and within a week, they were in love with working out again.

8) Releases stress. The music, the wonderful environment, the happy people and the dance routines make you forget about your worries.

9) The classes are so easy to follow. No matter your age or fitness level, you’ll be able to follow along.

The instructors are trained to use cues to help guide the student on what the next move will be.

10) Tones your body. Since you’re using your entire body (hips, legs and arms) during the dance routines, your core, legs and arms will get toned.

If you haven’t tried a Zumba® Fitness class yet, definetly give it a try. It’s one of those things that you have to try in order to like it.
